SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY This 15 an article that might appear in the Calamus Times in the year 1960 As you purchase your newspaper from the newsboy, you are nearly knocked off the sidewalk by a bevy of Jabbering fighting, little ruffians who are pushing up the sidewalk in the tow of their Momrrue Picking yourself up you look at the mother You have a feeling somehow that you should rec ogruze this tired fat woman about 30 Why, hello there she called, coming over to you with hands outstretched, Quiet, Joey No Mary, you cannot ride piggy back on Roger Now be quiet, all of you Now you know who she Mardelle Mueller and Joel Olson had been married the very evening of com mencement exercises Joel was now owner of twenty farms surrounding Cal amus He and Mardelle live in a big white stucco house in Cala.mus You fi nally untangle yourself from the herd of little ones, and proceed on your way As you are passing a certain house, the door opens and again you are nearly flattened by a tremendous gust At once you know who lives in that house Your old friend, a victim of hay fever, Lorraine Hoag Lorraine is going out so you walk along with her, and as you walk you talk Lorraine says that she has just received a letter from Neola Kavanaugh this morning You ll remem ber Neola She and Art have a fine little farnily and are now living 1n DeWitt As you walk up the street you are attracted by angry shouts You round a corner and see a thin old lady standmg out in the yard of a house shaking Robbie Jacobi you get away from there she cried The little boy continued running the stick along the fence and then he stuck out his tongue and cr1ed out, Okay, Miss Easton Still screa.m1ng Naa naa ran o Those Jacobi kids fumed the old lady If Gerry and Bob Jacobi don t keep those away from here, I I ll have the law on em As if in answer to her words a blue umiormed figure of a policeman comes strolling by But this 15 a woman policeman Under the blue brim of the officer s hat you see the face of another old friend, Theodora Jacobsen Along the sidewalk behind her, Theodora is dragging the limp form of Roy Husen whom she had just caught robbing the grocery store run by Darlene Lee Officer Jacobsen offers to escort you on your way, across the street, since, at this time there is a parade honoring Calamus returning movie starlet, Joan Emmert Joan has returned to her home town to set up her own theatrical company Lucille Green, another former Calamusxte is Joan s press agent You lmow, forever the diplomat But now it s about time for you and me with my little black satchel, filled with atomic chemicals, to be leaving for my laboratory Leave your card t the newspaper office Dr Joyce Grau, Ph D I 0 , . ll ,ll ' lt ' U ' ' I I ' 22 ' is. . . . . , her fist at a small boy who was running a stick along her picket fence. ll ' I ', Z II .
