McPhee foresaw a need for a special kind of college for a special kind of youth. . . Implementing this was the satisfaction. Needs and satisfactions are impermanent, however, for they change with the times -so julian McPhee tried to keep the changes reasonable and gradual lest they topple the unfinished work. Could any man do more? Some say Julian McPhee dreamed of a great Cal Poly but a dream is a wisp of thought in the subconscious. Julian McPhee's contributions to edu- cation and life were most conscious. The substance of his life work was real, as Cal Poly is very real.
