REVIEW The retirement of Justice Thurgood Marshall of the Supreme Court caused President Bush to nominate another person to the high court. Anita Hill, a professor and former co-worker of Thomas ' , alleged to have been sexually assaulted by the Supreme Court nominee. Hearings were held and her testimony failed to dismiss Mr. Thomas. 43 year old, Clarence Thomas was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to replace Marshall on the Supreme Court. Thomas remained well .supported throughout the ordeal and won his seat in a 52-48 vote. REVIKW ■«! 29

YEAR IN Thousands of Iraqis were killed by the U.S. and its allies after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. His army retreated from Kuwait, leaving the country in sham- bles, but the leader remained in power. The Iraqi invasion caused the destruction of millions of dollars in property.
