His ' ' Dances With Wolves , which won a very impressive seven Academy Awards, became a criti- cal, as well as a blockbuster hit. Of the seven Oscars the film received, Mr. Costner earned the title of Best Direc- tor. He truly is an inspiration. 39

Year In The people in the Soviet Union suffered a serious depression. Food was very scarce. People died and their inflation rose. Hours after the invasion, Arabs from all over the world took to the streets in anti-Iraq demonstrations. Change occurred in Eastern Europe as well. Communism no longer ruled that part of the world. Congratulations 1991 CSUF graduates. After a long and arduous process, you have earned your degree and join over 76,000 other CSUF alumni who represent our univer- sity throughout the world. Since our first graduating class in 1960, Cal State Fullerton ' s reputation has grown tre- mendously. This is due in large part to the success of its alumni. Your success in the coming years will further enhance that reputation as you move into your chosen fields of interest. Your degrees have also earned you the opportunity to become members of the CSUF Alumni Association. In addition to allowing you to maintain close ties with the University and your fellow graduates, membership gives you the chance to assist future students and make a posi- tive contribution to our university. Continued affiliation with CSUF can be a rewarding experience. During these times of economic hardship, only those campuses with the suppo rt of its alumni will continue to grow and pros- per.
