During these past years, you no doubt strug- gled at times with difficult concepts and new ideas. On occasion, you may have felt overwhelmed by term pa- pers, examinations and homework. But now that you have succeeded, I am sure you will agree that the effort was worthwhile. The joy of a job well done is now yours. The future for you is bright because you now have earned the credentials that testify to the society at large that you are, in fact, an individual with exceptional capabilities to lead, to evaluate the world around you and to express yourself effectively both verbally and in writing. The tangible evidence for the product of an education is often invisible. You can ' t touch it, see it or feel it. However, as the years go by and you settle into your career, you will see and feel the impact of your marvel- ous education. Now that you have graduated, you will continue to be a part of our family as a Cal State Fullerton alumnus. We hope that you will keep in touch with us and that you will come back to the campus often to participate in various alumni programs and university- wide events. Your aca- demic achievement has earned you membership in our Association, which we think will become increasingly significant as time passes. The fact that you are a CSUF Alum indiciate that you are well prepared to serve society in your special way. The graduates who have preceded you have lighted the way for you, and the reflection of their successes have given the University a widely recognized reputation for excellence which surpasses its youth. Your Alumni Association hopes you will now take the opportunity to enter into a new kind of reciprocal relationaship with the Universi- ty, one in which we serve each other. As a member of the Alumni Association, you retain many of the privileges granted to students, among which are use of the library and recreational facilities, and reduced rates for a variety of campus events. The Association will keep you informed through its quarterly newsletter as it expands services and benefits for its graduates. You can serve the University by volunteering your time, talents and financial support. The Alumni Association recently completed a study of six areas of campus life where your input and participation will be of great value. You will be informed of specific needs through our newsletter, and we invite you to respond when and where you are able. Our very important Alumni- University relationship requires con- stant contact with each of you. Therefore, it is essential that you inform the Alumni Affairs office, which is on campus, of your current address, and any change of your address, so that we can maintain this vital link. Dean School of the Arts California State University, Fullerton was one of the earliest State Colleges to establish a School of the Arts. From its beginning, this institution has emphasized cre- ative excellence and has demonstrated a continuing commitment to the professional development of the art- ist. Orange County today can be seen as a thriving hot bed of creative activity, in music, art, theatre and dance. Fullerton graduates populate the arts communi- ty in great abundance and are extremely active in their pursuits as creative artists. Many have excelled as indi- vidual artists while others have been active participants in industry and education. ANDERSON, Dean School of Business Economics On behalf of the faculty and staff in the School of Busi- ness Administration and Economics, I would like to relay our best wishes on your completion of another academic year here at California State University, Fullerton. The SBAE continues to grow in number of students and in stature within the community, due in large part to the successful efforts of our alumni. In addition, the members of our faculty have established themsleves through teach- ing and research efforts as one of the best business faculties in the country. During 1981-82, our main objective was to create a sate- lite computer lab within the SBAE. Thanks to the univer- sity ' s commitment to this project, we opened the doors to the new lab in early April. 1982-83 will usher in our first year as an Impacted business school. The demand for our courses far exceeds our ability to provide professors and classrooms necessary to satisfy that demand. We will introduce a pre-business classification for all lower division students next year and specific criteria will have to be met before a student be- comes a business major in his her junior year. The admin- istrators within the school are working hard to make this transition as painless as possible for our students. For those of you who are graduating, I wish you much success in your future endeavors. Please return to campus whenever you are in the area because we would like to keep in contact with you. The caring professional is a person who treats people as people, not a machine who treats people like things. He or she is one who is knowledgeable both technically and theoretically, understanding and being able to explain not just what to do, but how and why it is done. The caring professional is responsible to the needs of the profession itself including the need to attract the best persons as professional colleagues. Caring professionals seek new and better ways to serve; they treat the profession as something they become, not just as jobs they do. Each of you is the product of a unique life history and is moving toward an individual future. Nevertheless, you share with one an- other the common experience of having been students at CSUF. It is my hope that experience will be useful to you, regardless of your future, and that you will value the efforts we have made to educate you. The success or failure of those efforts at education is not always evident upon graduation. The problem-solving abilities and the value orientation that are at the roof of the disciplines in this school are usually better seen as one makes important life choices.
