LUMBERJACKS AND “Lumberjacks and Weddingbelles” was a full scale musical-the first to be presented at Centura for over 15 years. The plot was based on the fact that lonely lumberjacks in America’s early northwest ter- ritories were in dire need of female compa- nions. Asa Mercer, the aspiring lawyer, goes back to Boston to bring back the weddingbelles. The happy situation is sabotaged by the evil Mayor Crook and the horrible Scrubbs family. Music, singing, dancing, comedy, and mystery combined to hold the attention of the audience. Nearly 800 people attended the mu- sical held in the elementary gym. The Scrubbs Family in harmony?! 4

HARVEST OF HARMONY On the morning of Octo- ber 3, 1987, Centura’s Marching Centurions set out to do what they had never done before. Led by majorette Wanda Stienike and preceded by the queen candidate Heather Simdorn, the band mar- ched to a victory. Not only did the band take the Class C trophy, they also were named the best band in Classes C and D. For this, they were awarded the traveling trophy. The band director, Charles Wellensiek, had this to say: “After 14 years of practice, we finally got it right.” Harvest of Harmo- ny was a success for the Centurions!
