Total Eclipse Student and Teacher enthusiasm filled the air as Monday. September 26th, kicked off Spirit Week’s activities in preparation for Centura's Homecoming, 1983. Monday’s attire included shorts, sweats, T-shirts and hats. Tuesday was designated Punk Day, or for those more conservative, 50’s day. Dress up day followed with seniors going to extremes with long formals and three-piece suits. Thursday was confusing for everyone as Backwards” or Future” Day found people coming (or were they going?) to school wearing clothes backwards, guys dressing as girls and vice versa. Also roaming the halls were mommies, old men and military officers. On Friday everyone expressed their school spirit by wearing burgundy and white. Friday also included a pep rally and announcement of the winners of FHA’s King of the Legs” contest. Mr. Hermance took first place in the teacher’s division and Jerry Wooden was first runner-up. Dave Bell became King of the Legs . That night the volleyball team lost a heart breaking game to the Burwell Longhorns, but spirits were lifted as the whistle blew the fourth quarter to an end, and the football team won with a victorious 38-0 score. Saturday moFning Centura's march- ing band played in the Harvest of Harmony Parade in grand Island. Lisa Trumler, Centura’s Queen candidate, rode on the Queen’s Court Float as the second runner-up. Later that evening, the annual Homecoming Dance began with the coronation of King, Kerry Sheeks and Queen, Ronda Bowden. Joey Grabowski and Stacey Schumacher, the former King and Queen, returned to crown them. First Runners-up were Lisa Trumler and Scott Franssen. Second runners-up were Barb Brase and Bob McDonald. Other candidates included Pat Baldwin, Kris Welty. Bill Johnson and Corey Myers. Rick Bell and Michelle Trumler were Robe Bearersi Holly Nelson and Nathan Wilhelm were crown bearers. Bobbi Meyer and Dave Bell were sophomore attendants and junior attendants were Brenda Busboom and Ken Gallagher. The coronation was over, and the Royal Court danced to the theme song, Total Eclipse of the Heart , which was played by Sights and Sounds Sensation”.
