History of the l5'a :I Organized in 1946, the Cairo High School Band has been most active throughout the twelve years of its existence. It has played for practically every civic celebration of any importance, plus many out-of- town engagements, During the school year of 1954-1955 the band played some seventy-odd public per- formances of one sort or another, averaging more than two per week. The Cairo High School Band has participated in every band contest in the state of Georgia in the past nine years and has earned top ratings each and every year. During this time it has won one hundred and forty-five First Divisions, ten second Divisions, and two Third Divisions, in state and district competition. Entering the state contest in 1952, the Cairo organization won the top ranking ratings for an all time high mark, entering thirteen events, this band earned a perfect score of thirteen First Division ratings. The only section of the State of Georgia in which the band has not played extensively was the north- western part. This portion of -our state was covered bythe band last year on their annual concert tour. Traveling as far north as Cartersville the band played in every part of the western portion of our state.
