BAND OFFICERS Left to rtghr Rosalie Boone Sergeant Harrtet Bell Corporal Anne Jefferson 2nd Lieutenant Carolyn Thomas Corporal Dtck Porter 2nd Lieutenant Sonny Marttn Corporal Wyman Richter Captain Freddie Cutchtns Corporal Arts Mtxon 1st Lteutenant and Drum Major Lanny Nicholson Corporal JtmmyAr1tne Sergeant Sammy Prtnce Sergeant Harrtet Hunter Corporal THE HISTORY OF THE BAND Organized tn 1946 the Catro High School Band has been most acttve throughout the ten years of tts existence It has played for practically every ctvtc celebration of any tmportance plus many out of town engagements Durtng the school year of 1954 1955 the band played some seventy odd public performances of one sort or another averagtng more than two per week The Catro I-ltgh School Band has parttctpated tn every band contest tn the state of Georgia tn the past ntne years and has earned top ratings each and every year During this ttme tt has won one hundred and thirty three Ftrst Dtvtstons ten Second Dtvtstons and two Thtrd Dtvtstons tn tn 1952 the Catro organtzatton won the top ranking ratings for an all ttme htgh mark entering thirteen events this band earned a perfect score of thirteen Ftrst Dtvtston ratings Thts mark wtll stand for all time stnce the state contests have been dtsconttnued for the present Regional Contests In 1955 tn Moultrie at the Regional Contest the Catro Band entered 13 events and won 13 Ftrst Dtvtstons or top ratings for aregtonal rec ord for perfect scores Agatn tn 1956 and agatn tn Moultrie the band equaled thts record by entering 13 events and earning 13 Ftrst Dtvtstons The band ts thought by those who know to be one of the best school musical organizations tn this S8CIl0l'l of the country It performs tn a professional manner play tng mustc of the best quality It has several ftrsts to IB credit the ftrst band tn the state to use blackltght tn tts football shows the ftrst band tn Georgia to use Swtss Flag Swtngers the ftrst and only band tn Georgta and one of the few bands tn the country to go on an extended concert tour each year Last year the concert tour took the band into three states Florida Georgta and Alabama The 1957 concert tour wtll take the Cauo Htgh School Band tnto South Carolina for the thtrd year However this year the tour wtll be through the Eastern part of the state and will number 938 offtctal miles Durtng the ftve years the band has made the concert tour tt has traveled practically every section of the state of Georgia and South Carolina northeast and northwest Flortda During these tours the band has traveled more than ftve thousand mtles and has played before almost the concert tours the Catro Band has played tn some stx or etght ctttes wtthtn a one day trtp of Catro Wm T Verran who organtzed the band ten years ago and ts sttll tts director has a national reputation tn the band fteld He ts a member of the American Bandmaster s Assoctatton the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a bandsman He ts tn demand as a cltnt ctan and Judge at band cltntcs and contests throughout the southeastern part of the counuy For eleven years he was State Chairman for Bands of the Georgia Music Educators Assoctatton tts prestdent for two years and vtce prestdent for two years In potnt of servtce he ts the oldest school bandmaster tn the state of Georgia ' I ' . : ' . : . - ' : . : ' . - ' : ' , : ' .
