The Library was made larger, with the addi- tion of the audio-visual room, a conference room and an independent study room. Along with rearranging books to suit the re- modeling, librarians were kept busy assisting students in finding materials for class assign- ments. Guidance counselors moved into their new office, a complete renovation of last year's main cafeteria. They also initiated a more ef- fective method of dividing students for coun- seling, dividing students on an alphabetical system. Providing seniors with information on colleges, and revising student's sched- ules, filled the time of this year's Guidance counselors. lt appears that the Guidance Dept. is, indeed, under a stern and watchful eye. Augustine's Restaurant in Belleville was the setting of the 1970 junior-Senior Prom, held May 8th from 8-11 in the patio room. Scheherazade, meaning court of love and beauty, was the theme at this year's prom. lt portrayed an atmosphere of the early Arabian nights. Entertainment for the evening was provided by the rock group Uptight Sound Creation from Chicago, Illinois. The lunior class helped enormously in preparing for prom by selling refreshments at athletic events and devoting much of their time for the preparation of prom itself. The highlight of the evening was when retiring queen Mrs. Brenda Starr Duckworth crowned the 1970 prom queen Miss Becky LaCroix at the candle light Coronation. The new queen's court consisted of Stephanie Arms, Georgia Demet- rulius, Carla Emrich, and Linda Frien, maid of honorg who were selected from 10 semifinalists. 64 Queen Betty LaCroix, escorted by David Vaughn, resigns supreme at 'Scheherazadef F . if In a true moment of happiness, Betty beams as she chats with Dave. The A Capella Choir joined with various oth- er choirs in the area to sing at Powell Hall while the St. Louis Symphony Orches- tra accompanied them. Another unique introduction this year was the use of electric guitars and amplifiers to ac- company the choir. The band held its formal concert on May 17. I74 Worked to Meet Future Expenses The Sophomore Class again found itself in the midst of changes. With ever-increasing enrollment in school, most sophomores had no P.E. ln place of P.E. came the dreaded study hall. The class of '72 again found itself on shifts. This year the shifts were longer and most had a chance to breathe between classes. A full semester of driver education, coupled with consumer and health educa- tion gave the class of '72 a chance to look past individuals and into the world of prod- ucts which they will someday be purchas- ing. The long-awaited junior year came fast, and the Sophomore Class was soon within the status of upperclassmen. 'EXW Exit the Sophomore Class officers, left to right: Ginger Baker, secretary: Donna Small, treasurer: Kit Luna, president, Dave Dealy, vice-president. During Our Sophomore Year. . . Their en- thusiasm is apparent in the expressions of their class officers. Their problems, the same as their fellow classmates, were shifts, study halls, and new and difficult sub- jects. The freshmen met these obstacles and over- came them. Freshman participation in athletics proved more than ample for such a group as they headed for their sophomore year with hopes for even more glory for the fine teams they started. Yearbook Dedicated to Wilkerson The Cahochron staff and the student body join in the acknowledgement of Mr. joe Wil- kerson, principal of Cahokia Senior High School. In his first year as principal, Mr. Wil- kerson gave rise to many changes which im- proved academic conditions, as well as morale of the student body. He made himself avail- able to his fellow administrators, faculty, and students alike. ln working with everyone to- ward the betterment of C.H.S. as an educa- tional institution and as a place with a pleas- ant atmosphere in which to grow, he has, indeed earned our admiration. The yearbook staff of 1970 therefore dedicates this Caho- chron to Mr. joe Wilkerson. Never too busy to see a student, Mr. Wilkerson pauses to chat a moment, Mr. Wilkerson emphasizes a point. Mr. and Mrs. Wilkerson enjoy an anecdote at the C.H.S. A man Wh0 H5495 I0 keep in l0UCh. Mf- Wilkerson is S990 Honor Banquet. frequently about the corridors and grounds of C.H.S. As we came to the end of the long road of headaches, trials, and tribulations that led to the completion of this year's Cahochron, we found that the finished product was well worth the effort. The amount we gained in responsibility, experience, and new friends gave us greater insights into our coming years of adulthood. We have attempted to depict, through our issue of the Cahochron, a profile of the events that made this year meaningful to us. We have gained through academic as well as extra-curricular activities. We have come to many meaningful experiences through our studies. We hope that through this, our pub- lication, the reader will gain the impact of some of the happenings that were ours. We present the 1970 CAHOCHRON. 220 . . , 4, .,-,,,?v7,Y, up Y 'muah 'A ?Q:EQWw41- l QW Sf E' JL? uae!
