Breaking almost every school record, they proved themselves to be the best in the schoo1's history. It is with great pride and respect that the 1966 CAHOCHRON staff dedicates this yearbook to a group of great athletes and fine young men. YYY, , W, X This Is CHS I966 CHS 1966 is many things. It is the noted achievements made by students in academics. It is a year enveloped with many exciting and memorable social events--Homecoming, Twirp Week and Prom, not to mention the sock hops that accompany each home football or basketball game. 1966 is the year for out- standing accomplishments in athletics--a time for breaking previous school records. To the Freshman, 1966 is the beginning of a practically new way of life. To the Sophomore and Junior it means picking up where the previous year left off. And to the Senior, 1966 brings a close to four years of never-ending activities and long-to-be-remembered happenings. The events related in this year'sCal'1ochron are part of you because you were part of them. This book serves as the spark to kindle the everlasting flame of the memory of your high school years. 5 4 .MB Cn Cahokia' On Cahokia, Ou Cahokia! Candy, fruit cake, cushion sales, and basketball games sponsored by the class have boosted the treasury. Seniors can hardly find the time to look back on their school years. More often they are looking forward and planning their lives after graduation, Big Chiefs Lead Successful Year Wir Q T K E PRESIDENT V-PRESIDENT SECRETARY TREASURER Bob Thurwalker Mary Rogers Joyce Gordon Janet Myer For the last time this year Seniors will walk the halls of CHS never to return again. The graduating class of 1966 will long remember the years they spent on the Comanche reservation the careful guidance and classroom assistance. Led by competent officers each year, the class strived for better school atmosphere and has come to promote the greatest degree of school spir it in the history of the school. The class has been a credit to the school both in achievement and in leadership and will surely be remembered by the present underclassmen. The Juniors operate the concession stand during football and basketball season. The eventual goal of their money- making projects is the Junior-Senior Prom, which is totally planned and presented by the Junior Class. Q The Juniors' Choices 62 'INF www' s, , President V. -President Secretary Treasurer Terry Mondy Evvie Moravec Diana Hall Colleen O'Malley The Junior year is one of the most important years in an individual's high school career. It is during this time that he first begins to feel the responsibility of being an upperclassman. One of the biggest responsibilities given the Junior class is the operation of the concession stands at games. The Juniors this year added something new by sending vendors into the stands to sell their goodies to the hun- gry spectators. The Juniors have planned a wonderful Prom this year, which is to be held at the Sheraton Jefferson Hotel in St. Louis on May 27. It is to be in the Gold Room from 8 to 12 o'clock, with music provided by Moe Harvey and the Skyliners. The class of 1967 has done a fine job of accepting its responsibilities as upperclassmen. They have been a lively asset to the school in many ways this year and show promise of being an excellent class of Seniors next year. However, the skits and dancing were still held in the boys' gym. Friday marked the Homecoming game and the halftime crowning of the queen. Saturday concluded the fun-filled weekend as the queen and her court were presented at the dance. Student Bod Prepares for and Enjoys Mary Rogers, Joyce Gordon, and Ron Pratt were among the many Seniors who helped decorate their last Homecoming float. The cheerleaders helped promote school spirit as they led the student body in cheers at the Thursday night bonfire hop. 80 Making yardage the easy way, the Comanches broke through to another victory. Former Homecoming Queen, Sharon Benda, crowned Toni Doolin, the new queen for 1965, as Ellen Gisher, Special Maid of Honor, expressed her con- gratulations. They busy themselves in planning and raising money for the Freshman- Sophomore Spring Dance. Their activities this year include turning out aHomecoming float, holding an auction, and selling Comanche pennants. Wt Sophomores Select Leading Four President V-President Secretary Treasurer Tyrone Haywood Susan Narez Judy McIntosh Karen Harwell The Sophomore class is usually fairly inactive until the spring when it plans the Freshman- Sophomore Spring Dance, which is for the underclassmen who can't go to the Junior-Senior Prom. The class of 1968 is not as dormant as that, however. This energetic class of Sophomores started planning the Freshman-Sophomore dance last year when they were Freshmen by inaugurating the new idea at Cahokia of collecting dues from each member of the class. They continued this practice this year, and the money will go to pay for the dance. Another idea hatched from the head of some bright Sophomore to raise money for the dance by holding an auction. Items for the auction were donated by Freshmen, Sophomores, and faculty mem- bers. With their enthusiasm and new ideas, the Sophomore class has already shown that it can accept the future responsibilities of upperclassmen. 4 Energetic Sophs Begin New Year 12- Persona1ly, I prefer donuts. tl A G. Sometimes it was bewildering and lonely, sometimes unbelievably goodgbut always, it was exciting. Discovering the differences of grade school and high school has filled most of the time of Freshmen. Participating in high school events instead of just witnessing them, has proved to be fun for Freshmen, and it is a sample of the three years ahead. Papooses Choose Joint-Chiefs President V-President Secretary Treasurer Dennis Daniels John Williamson Brenda Starr Mary Loomis The transition from junior high to high school is an important and sometimes difficult one. This year's Freshmen crossed over the bridge quite well, however. They quickly became familiar with C.H.S. and all its varied activities. The Freshmen this year did something a little different for Homecoming. Instead of stuffing chicken wire with T.P. for the float, they made tissue carnations and tied them on the wire. Everyone got in the spirit and made carnations for the float. The result was a beautiful float that took second place in the judging. The Freshmen also helped the Sophomores in their auction by donating various articles to be auctioned off at this event. V The class of 1969 is the largest in the history of C. H.S. with approximately 582 people. LA class of this size can be a real asset to C.H.S. in the coming years. First Months Are the Worst Sharon, not Susan. to No, I said pass it i s I. Akridge J. This year, at Cahokia, everyone was caught up in the excitement of an undefeated football season. The Comanches ranked 3rd in the East Side and as high as 5th in the entire St. Louis area. Basketball started off terrifically with the Comanches ranked first in the Metro-East. With four returning lettermen, Cahokia proved to be a threat to every opponent. The Comanche squad fought hard to win the Midwestern Conference Championship from Highland. 146 Frosh, .l.V. A student's main purpose in attending school is to learn, and Cahokia students are fortunate in having some of the best teachers in the state on the teaching staff. Whereas each teacher might have only one hundred-fifty students, the Administration must be responsible for the entire student body of about 2,000.
