STUDENT COUNCIL Davis, D.Beam, Witwer, Rau, B.Kruppenbach, Miller, Moyer, Mr.Ebert The Student Council is a member of the Berks County Associ- ation of Student Councils. Four members of the council: Betty Witwer, Elsie Eshelman, Kenneth Kurtz and Eugene Witwer, were chosen to represent the council at the 5tudent Counci.Convention at Wyomissing High School.Elbert Eberts isadviser of the councl. The following people were elected to hold offices: Eugene Witwer, presidentg Kenneth Kurtz, vice president5Elsie Eshelman, secretaryg and Anna Mae Beam, treasurer. A trip to the Pennsylvania Farm Show on January l7 was one of the feature projects of the Student Council. Students from the high school and junior high school were permitted to go on the trip. On November 15 the council held a Sauer kraut and hot dog dinner in the Morgantown Auditorium. The Student Council,with the help of the adviser, rearranged the schedule. Morning and afternoon classes were alternated. 35

THE WELSHNIAN J? ? Mrs. Groff, Montgomery, Peck, Hay, Beam, Pike, B. Shirk, Hollinger, Eshelman, Hertzler, Segner, Kurtz Rhoads, Lilley, Bannon, Elsie Moyer, Witwer TH WELSH AN, a monthly mimeographed publication, this year celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. The paper featured alum- ni news, stories, exchange news and every event which happened at C.H.S. For the fourth consecutive year THE WELSHMAN won first place rating in a state contest for mimeographed newspapers in schools having an enrollment of less than 250, sponsored by the Pennsyl- vania School Press Association. THE WELSHMAN was also a member of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and um second place the two years it was entered in competition. In observance of its twenty-fifth birthday ten members, in- cluding the Editor, Eugene Witwer, and Assistant Editor, Eugene Hollinger, attended the P.S.P.A. convention. The student scribes were chaperoned by Mrs. Dorothy S. Groff, faculty adviser. 34

Kruppenback, Mountz, Witwer, Lange, Rau Buchler, Rhoads, Pike, Janet Beck, Montgomery Mrs. Groff, Miller, Bannon, Jo-Ann Beck, McElroy Once again the Seniors planned their yearbook under the super- vision of Mrs. Dorothy Groff. The class elected Mary Bannon as Editor of the Blugold. Jo-Ann Beck filled the capacity of Business Manager. All art work was done by Richard McElroy, who worked faithfully at his duty as artist. Each member of the class had a share in preparing write-ups and securing information included in the annual of 'S2. Also, each member helped to finance the publication by selling advertisements. Pictures for the Blugold were taken by C. K. Witner Studio of Reading while Myers and Company of Topeka, Kansas, fulfilled the duty of printing this annual. 36
