CADOTT WISCONSIN yOU UPC I70W 2 Z! tt ,J-r ITS EARLY HISTORY The hrstory of Cadott began 119 years ago when a half breed Indian Jean Baptiste Cadotte who had served with the Bnush rn the War of 1812 settled rn this area rn 1838 Though he left three winters later the place retained the name of Cadotte Falls In 1858 Mr Robert Marnner became probably the first permanent settler After the termination of his service in the Civrl War as Provost Marshal for part of Minnesota later near the srte of our present old bridge Mr Marnner s wife came here rn 1869 and was the frrst white woman to reside within the village lrmrts Messrs Monat Gungel and Rabbies completed a tannery in 1866 In 1875 R Kaiser opened the first store The village was platted that same year In 1876 a heading mrll was set up Robert Marnner was more or less the overseer of the village Wrth Mary Hoard as tts first rnstructress a log cabin elementary SCh00l was opened in 1868 In 1873 Marnner was appointed Cadott's frrst postmaster In 1880 the railroad came first the Wisconsin Central later bought out by the Soo Line Also that year the Clark Mfg Company formerly of DePere built a hub and spoke factory where the present Lacma s Lumber Mill stands That same year the benefit society known as the Scrap Brother hood Company was formed and a spacious hall was built in 1884 for their use It was the center of actr MARRINER S DAM vrty until rt was destroyed by fire 9 and Wisconsin, he built a dam on the river in 1865. A bridge was built there a year
