Congratulations to the Seniors of 1957+ and to Mrs. Birney. You have produced a fine Annual. It will be treasured by all of those who purchase one, for years to come. I believe that we have a good school at Cadiz. I think we are helping our students to become good citizens, believing firmly in the democratic way of life. Every school has standards. These standards at Cadiz High School, in my opinion, should be flexible to meet changing demands of the society in which they, the students live. School standards should be as high as they need to be or should be, to utilize to the full, a stu- dent's present level of ability and thus build toward higher future levels of ability. They must not be too high and inappropriate if they lead to continued failure until the point of frustration is approached. We must give more recognition, in the future, to the integrity of the individual. The child in the school, is only an apprentice citizen. we must instill in the ch1ld's mind the principles of the democratic type of government which we have. We at Cadiz High School, hope to create thinkers, who will in the words of Bacon NRead not to believe and take for granted, but to weigh and considern. 5

At graduation time teachers, parents, and friends join in congratula- ting the Seniors who have won the coveted diploma. Everyone realizes that the graduate has worked toward a goal and has achieved that goal. Today when more pupils are graduating from high school than ever before we find ourselves thinking about graduation as the customary out- come of high school attendance. We are shocked, therefore, when a recent study shows that in our country only 502 of those enrolled in our high schools actually graduate. This only serves to emphasize that those who graduate have persisted, have achieved, have been successful. Seniors of l95N! We know you want to be successful in life for everyone has that desire. But how little we know about the real YOU. What thoughts are you thinking? what capabilities have you locked inside that are as yet undiscovered? what will you accomplish in the years that are allotted to you? One lesson I hope you have learned is that of interdependence. The automobile, airplane, and atomic bomb have brought all people so close together that a man or woman in Cadiz, Ohio, might start a chain reaction that would travel around the world. If the law of averages holds true to form some of you will attain a ripe old age while others will live a comparatively short span of years. Some will win riches, and others will earn only a modest income. Some will hold positions of prominence--others will be just average citizens. It is my conviction that each of us is placed in this world for some purpose. We each have some mission to perform. In the final examination God will determine whether or not your life has been successful in the light of how well you used the talents he gave you. we wish you real success. q9,!..fc'
