marching Spir Since spirit seems to be the order of the day, one could not look at Cabrillo spirit and get a total picture without including the Marching Band. Under the direction of Glenn Newcomb, the Cabrillo Marching Band maintained an undisputed reputation for itself, and Cabrillo High School. Upon entering the band room you are trophies which were awarded for their efforts. They range from six-foot masterpieces to wax covered skulls. The Marching Band would be incomplete without the snappy style of the majorettes, headed by solo majorette Sally Schaefer. Taking part in assemblies, halftime shows and parades, they have shown invigorating enthusiasm to all. This was clearly displayed by their attention-grabbing routines and fresh new ideas for reviving spirit this year. Starting off on the good foot, the Cabrillo Heralds marched on to their second successful year. They added extra F attraction to the band wherever they traveled. Leslie Scheurer, captain of the 1' squad, helped them to maintain their performance as a small, precision group. Top: The Marching Band was as shiny as their helmets. Bottom: fLeft to rightj: Mary Maher, Rita Albert, Lori Slagle, Billie Masterson, Kathy O'Donald, Leslie Scheurer CCaptainJ, Rose Brown, Ann Woelke, Debbie Thomas, Karen Lehman, Renee Harris. seriously We Took Some Things Seriously The end of our involvement in Viet Nam, the release of our prisoners of war, and rises in the cost of living are a few events which determined the school year 1972-73. Interest in world affairs was at its peak, as students became involved in current issues. At Cabrillo, 1972-73 evoked many memories. A successful football season concluded by a victory over Lompoc, a Northern League Championship water-polo team, a Homecoming dance depicted by 'Fire and Rain' and a jazz concert are some of the many factors which occured during an important period in our lives, High School. Theatrical Productions of 'A Christmas Carol,' 'Romeo and J uliet,' 'Fiddler On the Roof,' and 'Raisin In the Sun,' was another facet which will remain in the minds of many. Whatever this year brought, whether it be memories of success, failure, victory or defeat, it is wise to recall the past, as well as, look towards the future. s ....
