BUYS 5 GIRLS A Sifmi The Girls State was held May 28-June 4 and was fol- lowed by Boys State on June 5-11. Girls State was attended at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. and X began as a week of studying government, being involved in a mock government of their own and hear political views of others. At the time of girls state, there was a primary election going on, and was able to hear many of the candi- dates speak. They heard, with the exception of one, all the Candidates for Governor including the popular Bill Clinton. Also, on the day of the elections, they heard the now deceased Jim Ranchino who was a professor at O.B.U. and worked in political polling. In front of over 1000 girls, he predicted accuretely the outcome of every major state elec- tion that day. The following week, the boys were having an election of their own for officials for the caucuses which met at least three times daily. This included city, county, state and Party elections. They were divided into Federalist and Nationalist groups. Both groups learned many new items and ways of the Government. Marina demonstrates her leadership ability. Once again the Student Council was active on the Cabot High School campus. Marina Moore led the Council as president. Mr. Brooks Nash's class- room was the scene every Tuesday at 1:00 of an- other Student Council meeting. Some of the events sponsored by the Student Council were the Cabot We're Back Homecoming parade, several dances held throughout the year, Landscaping and Beauti- lication projects of the campus including rocking the Hill and the addition of benches placed around the Panther and gym. The Council also funded many projects that other clubs initiated. Monetary gifts were given to the Ministerial Alli- ance and Toys for Tots. The Pavilion was open again as in the past. The workers were kept busy as was evident by the long lines that formed at 12:35 and did not diminish until the last person was served at 1:05. The Student Council has added a great deal to the campus at Cabot High School and will contin- ue to do so in future years. This year has been successful and many lasting impressions have been made. You want what from the Pavilion'?'?
