BUYS 5 GIRLS A Sifmi The Girls State was held May 28-June 4 and was fol- lowed by Boys State on June 5-11. Girls State was attended at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. and X began as a week of studying government, being involved in a mock government of their own and hear political views of others. At the time of girls state, there was a primary election going on, and was able to hear many of the candi- dates speak. They heard, with the exception of one, all the Candidates for Governor including the popular Bill Clinton. Also, on the day of the elections, they heard the now deceased Jim Ranchino who was a professor at O.B.U. and worked in political polling. In front of over 1000 girls, he predicted accuretely the outcome of every major state elec- tion that day. The following week, the boys were having an election of their own for officials for the caucuses which met at least three times daily. This included city, county, state and Party elections. They were divided into Federalist and Nationalist groups. Both groups learned many new items and ways of the Government.
