They were evaluated on enthusiasm, poise, and appearance, and were required to do an individual cheer, group cheer, splits, and any other two stunts. During the summer they practiced cheers and gymnastics. At cheerleader camp in Fayettville, the girls received Outstanding and Excellent rib- bons. All this work, however, was only the beginning. When school started they arranged pep assemblies, attended games, and encouraged school spirit and good sportsmanship. The football cheerleaders sold spirit ribbons before the games. Both the football and basketball cheerleaders worked in the pavilion and made plans for a Christmas dance. Sponsor for the football cheerleaders is Coach Terry Williams. This is the first year of cheering for all of the basketball cheerleaders, sponsored by Mrs. Marsha Billingsly.
