What a hectic day it was when die Freshmen moved in on August 26. The excitement of actually being in nursing school, the job of carrying all those diings upstairs and unpacking, the joy of deciding that your roommate was OK, the goodbyes, die sudden realization that you were on your own--diese diings made August 26, 1968, a day to remember for Freshmen. The class of 1969 spent twelve weeks at Cherry Hospital, Goldsboro, N.C. Among the things we remember most were; visiting lecturers, field trips, films, topic discussions, ward class, oral drug reports, staff conference, ECT lab, Friday quizzes, U1C, U2B, R2, our library, evaluation conferences, role playing, and those 1:1 relationships. CHERRY HOSPITAL PSYCHIATRIC AFFILIATION 50 Those communication skills! Will we ever finish nursing care studies? Mrs. Best, Would you repeat that, PLEASE? MMH 'mmmm NORTH CAROLINA MISS STUDENT NURSE PAGEANT Miss Loutricia Mathis Five More Minutes Till Show Time! Who will be the new Miss North Carolina Student Nurse, was the question on everyones lips this year in Charlotte when Miss Loutricia Mathis repre- sented Cabarrus for the title. Hours of hard work and preparation were put into the pageant. Cabarrus could hold their head high as Lou walked down the ramp. Lou came in second but in our hearts she is first . . . 54 Cabarrus was certainly thrilled this year as Miss Mary Baggs, Junior Nursing Student, was chosen as the SNANC District IV Miss Student Nurse. She will represent the District at the State Convention in Winston-Salem, in March. We at Cabarrus feel that the District has got the best contestant in the State and we know Mary will make us doubly proud. Miss Mary Baggs SNANC DISTRICT IV MISS STUDENT NURSE FALL FESTIVAL This was the first year we had a Fall Fes- tival Queen. Each girl collected pennies with the support of her class. The night of the dance the pennies were counted and the girl having the largest number was selected as Queen. All proceeds went toward our annual. The attractive girl chosen as Queen this year was Miss Joan Miller. She was Co-Editor of the 1969 CAP 'N PIN and is a very active member of tire student body. Food, dancing and fun were enjoyed the night through by everyone. This dance is looked forward to by both Seniors and Juniors. Music by the Collegiates, service by the Fresh men, and excitement on everyones part made the dance a big success. ivSs-i GRADUATION p.J | W5«ST':':' 1968 •v •.•: Music filled the church as the Seniors of 1968 marched down the aisle for graduation exercises led by Marshals Judy Brown, Elaine Kepley, Lana Davis and Linda Moore. Three hard years of work had come to a climax. There are many a rough road behind them and many a challenge yet to meet. This day was brought to an end with eyes full of tears and hearts full of joy. Class of 1968--38 Graduates mstm: W Well, we finally did it! Now--State Boards-- Can we do it? Sure! See you in Raleigh! NATIONAL LEAGUE FOR NURSING ACCREDITATION In 1962, Cabarrus Memorial Hospital School of Nursing received its accredi- tation from the National League for Nursing. In 1968 we were visited by a team of NLN members to determine if we had maintained the high standards necessary for accreditation. In January we received the long-awaited news. Our accreditation has been renewed until 1974. Congratulations to CMH, a truly fine nursing school. 76 SOFTBALL TEAM 1968 Team Members: FIRST ROW; A. Straughn, V. Allen, C. Barkley, M. Lain, K.
