Where are the refreshments? Rev. Howard Allred Within this galaxy of human existance, there arises one of whom is dear to our hearts. With enthusiasm and skilled zeal, this one has been our guide for faith; our example of life itself. It has been this one who was always there to brace us for disappointment; lift us up from the fall; solicit our attention to the wiles of life. Who among us has spoken gentle words of reassurance as this one? And when our work is done, and our aims fulfilled; who among us has said: “We did it ourselves?” To this dramatic and profound one of wisdom-You, Reverend Allred— we sincerely say “Thank you!” 89 o 196S Ip A KATHY SELLERS Daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Sellers 90 BENNY HOWARD MABREY, JR. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Benny H. Mabrey We’ve finally made it! From frightened Freshmen in ’65 to proud Seniors in ’68. At our first class meeting, we elected Diane Frazier, Jeannie Wallace, Jane Honbarrier, and Kay Rule as our officers and Mrs. Mabrey, our advisor. We remember most about our Freshman year: “Mr. B.”, singing on the way to “Y”, or “What rule can we break next?”, setting the clock up in Anatomy, the week we were campused, the big snow, Buffalo Ranch picnic, our first injections, “I can’t hear the blood pressure!”, and the information gatherer sleeping in the Doctor’s Library. Juniors! “How do I get these stripes on?” Jeannie Wallace, Bonita Dull, Marion Blanchard, and Lynne Hester were our officers. Mrs. Joyce Stancil, our beloved advisor, helped us muddle through this, our longest year. We diligently studied O.B., Peds., and Med.-Surg. II. Discouraged and fatigued, we longed for our Senior year. But there were some high spots: Enter Wayne Adams, voicing his unsavory opinions, “Who said that?”, join the “jet set” at your favorite doctor’s office, “I want you to breathe for me, ’mo, ’gin, one mo’”, fractured femurs personified on 2D, “Can 92 people really cook on 4 burners?” “Yes!” says the ‘in- coherent’ kitchen committee, and who will forget the doctors, the Marines, and the Swinging Utmost at Bourbon Street—our Junior-Senior. On to the “Hill”! Remember, our first day on the unit? We were welcomed by the personnel and soon became friends with students from other schools. We’ll never forget: “Hey ya’ll! Who’d ’ja date this weekend?”, Panic! No keys!, Spruill Conferences, delicious food, Anderson Hall, Mile-Corbett-ToJo, Beasley, Johnny Avery-love those attendants!, Who lost a patient?, Girls getting married, Trudy and Bonnie leaving. This, was the summer of our Junior year. Our Senior year began with a gracious welcome from Miss Adams, and the presentation ol our “Senior stripes”. This year’s officers are Dot Garrison, Margaret Comer, Kay Rule, Laura Greene and our advisors are Mrs. Joyce Stancil and Mrs. Janet Palmer. Nine new faces strengthened our class. We soon became caught up in “Senior business”. Additions to the faculty promised support in the study of the middle years, Geriatrics, and disaster nursing. Evening and night duty were included in our curriculum, also those 3 A.M. conferences. In addition to our studies, we recall these gems: “I’m rather uneasy about Rosa”, fledgling psychiatrists interpret patient behavior, Team Leaders, keep your'cool!, Tattered “unies” taped to “bods”, clinging narcotic keys, our Christmas party, “Who got a diamond?”, our little German, Michael, “What’s on your leg, Lynne?”, “Who’ll vote Republican, now?”. In conclusion, we the Seniors, would like to thank all of our advisors, faculty, Miss Adams, house- mothers, hospital personnel, the Doctors, and everyone who has helped us attain our goals. It is our wish that we never forget the ideals you have instilled in us. 91 THE CLASS of 1968 Senior (S a is ics SCHOOL OF X-RAY COMBS, SHELLY JEAN Cap and Pin Staff 1; X-Ray Representative to Christmas Court 2; Representative to State American Society Radiology Convention 2. Time that drags by so slowly in an afternoon class, may race away while clowning with friends or stand still for a few magical moments at a Junior- Senior Prom. We hope with pictures and words to recall for you the times past and the events which came with those times, to bring back cherished memories in years to come. It this is accomplished, our work has truly been a pleasure. The staff will agree that just as we got started, just as we got organized, just as we found out what we were doing ... we finished, The 1968 Cap and Pin was out of our hands and into yours.
