By now we've bought our books from SBX, found our class- rooms, and our friends for lunch and we're ready for some par- tying. The free beer is tapped for our First Annual SGA Fall Fest. Be- fore o sellout crowd, the Ramones concert in the Lecture Hall gets our juices flowing and our ears ringing for the rest of the weekend. The following day, the fourth Friday of the semester, a Reggae Band pervades the Hill- wood Commons Terrace. The tempo accelerates as we sit under the lights at Hofstra University watching the Pioneers play against our neighborhood rivals, the Flying Dutchmen. We bear the burdenflcgstegpiwnwg' over the glass of 60-85 broken windows and showcases after vandals destroy Hillwood Com- mons and other campus build- ings. An estimated S2000 worth of damage is incurred. lt sup- posedly took 3 hours to shatter the glass, but it took a mere second glance to shatter the re- spect for those who did it. The Faculty Art Exhibit is worth more than a second glance. Directed by Prof. Alfred Van Loen and held in the Hillwood Com- mons Art Gallery, we see the artistic talent of our Fine Arts pro- fessors. We stand in awe of their photography, painting, and sculp- ture, our imaginations can soar with their abstract, nonobjective pieces, and we can marvel at their realistic representations. The aroma of victory perfumes the air around Hickox Field as the Pioneers effectively tackle the challenge that the Division l AA team, Northeastern University represents. The score is 9-7. We quickly forget the prior week's dissapointment and forge onward to Hofstra, our next antagonists. Herman Badillo voices his opin- ions of Mayor Ed Koch's Admi- nistration, views on public ser- vices, welfare, and New York City. Badillo had been asked to speak at Post by our Dept. of Health Care and Public Adminis- tration. He had resigned as Koch's Deputy Mayor for Policies because of the disagreement over key issues. His determination serves as a model for us all. A model performance of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by the Post Theatre Company hits the stage. Based on a novel by Ken Kesey, Cuckoo's Nest is welllreceived by audiences.
