basketball F 14:2 -5.3 f 1-D 2 s .fl The Pioneer Men's Basketball Team en- ded their i979-80 season on a much diffe- rent note than it began. ln what seemed like an exciting introduction to Pioneer Basketball l979, the Pioneers opened with a stunning victory over Manhattan Col- lege, at Manhattan's Draddy Gymnasium. A long, hard season followed that seemingly convincing victory, though, and the Pioneers found themselves with an l l-l4 season record. womens basketball Women's Basketball concluded another fine season this year, sporting a record of l7 wins and eight loses. The strong offense and pressing de- fense of the Lady Pioneers carried them over many powerful opponents, and onto post-season play in the Re- gional Tournament. Emotional intensity balanced by maturity was the formula it took, as the team rolled over such Division I powerhouses as Cornell, St. John's and Army in the regular season. The 64-49 trouncing of Army was particu- larly relishable, reversing a defeat from the previous season. It was the spirit of this team coupled with the persistant dedication of their coach Pat Lamb, that enabled them to come back from a losing road trip and crush challengers like Wagner College by 20 points.
