The Pioneers opened their l979 season with a disappointing l7-lO loss at Hickox Field against East Stroudsburg State College. Although we were defeated a personal triumph was sustained by junior halfback Tom Bennett. Bennett rushed for 85 yards, to bring his college career rushing tot- al over l,OOO yards. The following Saturday the Green and Gold triumphed over Division l- AA Northeastern University with a 9- 7 final score. Tom Bennett, again, led the way on the ground for Post, rushing for l52 yards in a record breaking 4l attempts. Coupled with Paul LoPresti's game winning safety, we had a great game. Our winning streak didn't end on the astro-turf surface against the Flying Dutchmen of Hofstra Universi- ty. Post's 27-3 victory ended the eight year rivalry between the two teams. For our Homecoming game, we play- ed the Kings Point Mariners. We easily emerged victorious with the score of 55-O. Tom Bennett rushed for his third straight consecutive lOO-yard plus game of the season. tix! Q I N fx .SE X Q I K M no X F., 1 1, ' ,. '12 nw! ' -'Q

Anile's Pioneers won their fourth consecutive game of the season, at home against American International College, i4-3. This contest had two notable touchdown passes caught by tight-end Tom Capone, one was for 53 yds., the other for 72 yards. Another important Pioneer was line- backer Dave O'Dell with his school record of 26 tackles. This earned him E.C.A.C. Defensive-Player of the Week honors. On October 20th, the Pioneers travelled to the University of Dela- ware to play a long awaited game be- fore 20,000 spectators. We were defe- ated 47-l9 in the Cereal Bowl as many Delaware students called it. The fourth quarter of the game saw last season's starting quarterback Dale Pescitelli replace this season's starter Lou Buschi. Pescitelli was able to generate offense for the Pioneers in this contest, going to tight-end Pat Daly twice for two touchdowns. After an off week, the Pioneers then faced the Engineers of Lehigh Uni- versity in Bethlehem, Pa., and lost l7- 0 to bring their season record to 4-3. This bout ended a five game consecu- tive l00-yard plus rushing streak by Tom Bennett. Despite fine perform- ances by Tom Bennett and other pioneer athletes, we were faced with the possibility of having a losing season. Our game against Towson State in Maryland seemed to reinforce what- ever pessimism we had. We lost 22- l 5 on a rain drenched field. Our last game of the season, however, was met with winning determination. It was Don Anile's last game, and we defeated Westchester State iPa.J 25- l9. This brought our season record to a winning 5-4 total. Tom Bennett broke Post's single season rushing re- cord at this last game of this nine- game season, compiling 969 yards, surpassing the old record set in l975 by Frank Prochilo, of 955 yards. 1132 i , r i- gl kg, -- x ,,l ,-,tv .
