Laura Elsroth and Noma Farese. In the loft category, Tim Dowd la winner in last year's contestl may have switched rooms and roomates, but he teamed with Mauro Belli in Riggs l22 to win the space utilization prize. Living in a triple can be a tight squeeze, especially if the room is only big enough for two people. Pat Tif- fany, Dana-jo Pearl and Lorraine Ruiz of Brookville l33 accomplished this feat and were given honorable men- tion for space utilization. Last year, a room with an A-frame loft captured the overall prize. This year, Terri DiRaimondi and Dori Bruno of Queens 219 took one step further with a loft constructed with on A-frame support system and a cantilever bed structure that got them the unique- ness award. Stacey Reddington and Elena Petrone of Riggs 250 and Donette Ferguson and Nellida Hem- mings of Post 2E2 were given honor- able mention. Everyone knows that the rooms in the quad leave little to be desired. However, Fronk Alston and Scott Muller of Suffolk 223 dis- approved that theory and were given the award for charm. Tony Jackson and Ron Harris of Riggs 8 were given honorable mention. The winners were honored at the Cereal Bowl Dinner at the Top of the Commons and were given customed engraved mugs and pictures of their room that were presented by the Bet- ter Dorms and Garden Man himself, housing director Ken Peress. 113

awarded to an overall winner in each category and to individual winners of each quality in both categories for a total of eight winners in all. Three judges inspect each room and score them accordingly. This year over 40 rooms have been judged by Steve Medwid, William Patterson and Har- ley Abrams. And the winners are. Andy Arenth and Stephan Gassner of Riggs 7 decided that two rooms are better than one so they designed a split-level loft where one could actual- ly walk around on the top of the loft rather than crawl. This concept made them the overall loft winners. Color coordinating a room can be tough but Carol Anne Schmitz and Maureen Russo of Brookville l28 found a way and the judges gave them the overall prize in the non-loft category. For added effect, the girls put in a little corner table with chairs that gave the room a Ginger-Bread look. If you live on the top floor of Post Hall, most of the rooms are smaller and have slanted celilings. Despite this handicap, Pat Wilcox and Mika lnatome of Post 302 grabbed the space utilization prize in the non-loft category. Other non-loft winners were Ed Lenane and .lim Mulvey of Brookville 46 whose combination of stacked milk crates, bunk beds and assorted plants gave them the charm award. Although there appears to be only one bed in Queens l lO, it is actually a high rise bed that unfolds into two beds so the uniqueness prize went to 112
