60155 flisiary Looking back over our high school life, we who are about to graduate can now regard it as a four-act play entitled The Quest for Knowledge, Four years ago on a balmy September morning, a cast of eighty-five reported for the first rehearsal, Directing this act were Mrs. M. G. Thompson and Mr. Frank Wilson, Jr. Hilliard Staton and Grant Wil- cox, as presidents of the two divisions, played the leading roles. Carol Graye and Mamie Johnson were cast as class queens. Thirteen members performed in the glee club, six in the band, nine on the basket- ball team, and two on the baseball team. The most vivid scene in this act was the Freshman Ball, which we all enjoyed. As wise sophomores we were a little more familiar with play acting. Mrs. S. L. Davenport and Mrs. O. B. Myers directed Act Il. Five newcomers joined the troupe. Playing leads this year were DeRoy Gorham and Shelton Wilson. Exceptional performances were given by Essie Briley and Myrtle Short, as class queens, Mamie Dickens, N, H, A, queen, Willie Jones, Little Theatre Award winner: William Moore, World History Award winner, and Grant Wilcox, Student Council presidential nominee. James Lewis stole the show, when he became eligible to enter Fisk University on the Ford Accelerated Program. Curtain call for the third act! Our troupe of approximately sixty juniors reported for rehearsal to Miss E. L. McConnell and Mr. A. E, Murrell, We knew this act would be exciting! Grant Wilcox played the leading role. Carol Graye and Anna Hunt performed as class queens. Other promising actors were Fred Outterbridge and Rudy Streeter, members of the All-Tournament Basketball Team, Argie Keel, French Award winner, Mamie Johnson, C. B. Award winner, James Lewis and John Sumrell, Marshals, and Grant Wilcox, Student Council presidential nominee for a second term. One outstanding scene in this act was an oratorical contest, sponsored by the class after studying famous speeches in American Literature. John Greene won first prize, Elbert Kilpatrick, second, and Shelton Wilson, third. The most breath-taking scene in the whole play was Moonlight and Roses, the setting for our Junior-Senior Banquet. Everyone played his role well in this scene. As the curtain opened on the last acl and we looked toward graduation, we knew we had to perform well. Mrs. E. B. Graves and Mrs. L. C. Hunter directed us in this last bit of drama. The cast insisted that Grant Wilcox continue as lead. Important parts were held by Carol Graye, Homecoming queen, Mamie Johnson, F, B, L, A, queen, Fred Outterbridge, member, All-State Second Football Team, and Richard Arm- field and Rudy Streeter, Captains, Varsity Basketball Team. All members of the cast participated whole- heartedly in trying to make the 1956 EPPESONION a success. The final curtain falls, but the Quest for Knowledge must go on. Out of gratitude to our directors and our well-wishers, we shall strive to apply successfully, on the stage of life, the principles of play production we have learned at Eppes.
