Majorettes and Flag Corps Add to Halftime Show The 1980-81 Flag Corps attended East Texas State University this summer where they received a third place award. They also performed at Lamar receiving a superior which entitled them to second place. The flag corps has been growing each year. lt has become an important part of the marching band. Although they do not have a teacher, they are learning their routines by working together. While there they performed routines and were awarded superior, excellent, and good ribbons, along with receiving a spirit baton every night. On November 4, the University interscholastic League Contest was held at the University of Texas at Arlington. The majorettes performed an ensemble to Star Trek, receiving an excellent rating. Although they do not have an instructor to help them with the routines, they are able to compensate by using parts of former routines along with those learned at camp. Where Can You Find the Best Musicians on In Symphonic Band, of Course. The Symphonic Band is the finest instrumental group at Brewer High School. When the students decide to audition, they realize that a high standard of performance and attitude has been established. For the most part, these band members will continue their musical endeavors after they graduate from high school. In symphonic band two things should have been accomplished. According to Mr. Sergei, the student should have lldeveloped an appreciation for music in all areas and found the art of music a very valuable, personal aspect of their lives. 22 0 Symphonic Band

Tina Unsell. Drill Team Kicks Into a Great Year at Brewer in 1980-1981 The Brewer Honeycombs had a new instructor this year, Miss Michelle Crimmons, a part-time student at TCJC. She is a former member of the Rangerettes and specialized in high kick. Though hired very late during the summer, she did a very good job during marching season, teaching the girls five different field routines. Working with officers Tina Unsell, captain and senior, senior lieutenants Lisa Renneberg and Gina Whitaker, and junior lieutenants Stephanie Smith and Kim Southers, Miss Crimmons and the drill team had a fine season. 24 0 Drill Team
