Academics Widen Their blllties Reading, writing, and arithmetic used to be what school was all about, however, here at Brewer, students are fortunate in that the basics are paired with higher level courses that help them prepare for college. Classes such as Computer Math, Comprehensive Logic, and the honors sections provide advanced work in particular areas of study. Computer Math is a new addition for those students interested in computer programming and computer science. This class is designed to teach students to write programs for business applications such as payroll and inventories. They also learn to write simple games and use graphics to create pictures and charts as output. More topics covered by the course are basic computer science and programming structures. Comprehensive Logic Verbal and Math are courses which prepare students for the college entrance examinations, such as the P.S.A.T,, S.A.T., and A.C.T. To anyone passing by, it would seem as though the school was empty and lifeless. However, within the school itself, students continue their work. Even as the teachers work on their lessons for the upcoming day, athletes prepare themselves physically for the upcoming game. The sound of volleyballs being spiked and set is heard as the girls practice for a tournament. Meetings of all sorts take place. Posters are painted as others sit ready to be hung. National Honor Society Secret Pals decorate lockers for their favorite athlete. Cheer- leaders devote their time to making signs and posters to decorate the gym for the next pep rally, then work on special skits, dance routines and cheers. Late in the evening the doors are closed, only to be opened early the next morning for the 7:00 practices, the band, drillteam, majorettes and flag corps are so well adjusted to. All of this continues day after day as well as other things. It is all a part of the after school students and their devotion to Brewer High School. Extracurricular 0 7
