When the succeeding clouds of tomorrow Have blurred the face of today, Look back and Remember each cloud Of happiness, of regret. But all - each cloud - was a necessary part Of those wonderful and magic years We called high school. In days to come there will be Dark clouds and silver clouds, But each with a promise of Tomorrow. Then spare a thought for yesterday - When all tomorrows were young and fresh And our hearts were lifted toward the Clouds. rfi - S s e- i jl di j OAA vy - ' ' . . . CLARA MOORE MISS ELLEN JOHNSON MR. C. B. PIPPIN MRS. CLARA HEAD MRS. NAN LADD For eight years Brewer Senior High School has been in ex- istence. There are, teaching at the school today, only five teachers who were here when our school first opened its doors on that eventful day in September, 1952. Through the years they have made innumerable contri- butions and, joined by others who have come later, have helped to build a school of which we may all be proud. It is for all their services and for all their help tliroughout the years that we in respectful admiration dedicate the 1960 edition of BEAR TRACKS to those remaining teachers from that first Brewer High School faculty . . . those teachers whom we call the original five. It is most important that we learn to do this in the most effective way possible. It is for this reason that ENG- LISH is one of the most stressed courses in the curriculum. It is here that we learn the mechanics of self-expression. It is here that we learn to communicate. In order that we may become accustomed to public speaking and learn the finer arts of public expres- sion, the school offers a course in SPEECH. The written word becomes more and more important, daily. Our newspapers serve a vital purpose in our day to day life. Those who are interested in this work are offered the chance to take JOURNALISM. In addition, in our ever-increasing contact with the world about us, it becomes necessary to have a working knowledge of not only our language, but the language of others as well. It is with this in mind that the school has added SPANISH to its list of subjects. JOURNALISM MATH SCIENCE G urncuium ' am i ud ' les Ours is also becoming a technical and specialized world. The scientific race is becom- ing more and more exacting every day. Today ' s students will graduate into a world where knowledge of MATH and SCIENCE is at a premium. To help to satisfy this need the school offers courses in math ranging from general math and algebra to trigonome- try and solid geometry. The science department covers courses from general science to physics. Also, to build a satisfactory world for tomorrow we must have a knowledge of yesterday, and a sound understanding of the way our government is set up. It is for these reasons that the school offers courses in HISTORY and CIVICS. HISTORY CIVICS t ■if OFFICE PRACTICE CB re ever Jlion cjcnooj Vocational courses are also set up to aid those students who have interests and abilities in these subjects. For those who are interested in the field of commerce, there are offered six courses in BUSINESS, ranging from typewriting to the all-encompassing subject of office practice. For those students wanting training in industrial arts, courses offered in MECHANICAL DRAWING and SHOP include two years each in woodwork, metalwork, and drafting. For those girls desiring training in homemaking, instructions in the arts of cooking and sewing are offered in three years of HOME ECONOMICS. SHOP HOME ECONOMICS ART G urricuium lum L) uoi ' les High school is also a place to develop the finer arts. Music is provided by an excellent BAND which includes within its ranks a stage band, a combo, majorettes, and flagbear- ers. ART, too, is offered, to aid and entertain students talented in this field. A world of rest and relaxation is offered by the LIBRARY. The variety of books which can be .found there offer entertainment as well as valuable information. Exercise of the body is also vital to the well-being of every student. To help keep each student in the best physical shape possible, the school offers various sports and activities in PHYSICAL ED- UCATION. All of these courses are designed with die student in mind. They are for the purpose of helping each person to develop to the utmost all his potentialities and to help him grow into a worthwhile, first-class citizen of tomorrow.
