There was only one returning cheerleader this year. The squad. being new. struggled through the football season with only a few failures and alot of help from sponsor Mrs. Ruby J. The Bio-Medical Careers Clubis biggest event this year was their weekend trip to Welder Wildlife Refuge in February. Armed with flashlights, sleeping bags, and lots of firewood, they set out on a school bus to face the wilderness.', They learned of the area's natural history, made casts of animal tracks, and tried their hands at nature photography, set- ting traps, making study skins and chasing javelina.

Cheerleaders Head Spirit The squad this year not only had a new head cheerleader, they also had a first year sponsor Mrs Ruby J Smith. During the summer, the squad attended summer camp at Sam Houston University. While there, the cheerleaders were awarded five superior ribbons and the spirit stick during competition. During camp, a cheerleader learns the tricks of the tradef' She attends jumping class, techni- que class and Boogie class! These are to supply the girls with style and rhythm. Other activities include tum- bling, exercising, learning a new cheer every day and planning a pep rally. At the end of each night, each squad performed what they had learned during the day in front ofjudges.
