Further emphasizing the theme, students came dressed in typical western apparel. An eye-catching pair of cowgirls are Nancy Coats and Gay Greengus. Splendid Are The Halls Students meet in the Gym for cheerleader tryouts. This is an exercise in democracy where candidates display their ability and talents, and later students make their choice by popular vote. Seated on the front row are Byrd ' s telephone students, who participate in almost every phase of the school ' s activities. Above: A welcome innovation was the school busses which for the first time in many years are transporting students to and from Byrd.
