No man is an island, no man stands alone, Each man needs his brother, each man needs his friends. These words very well describe the relationship between the City of Byrd and the City of Shreveport. Without Shreveport, Byrd could not be, and without Byrd, Shreveport could not be. Shreveport sends its future citizens to Byrd to learn better citizenship and leadership, and Byrd in turn sends its citizens to further the de- velopment of Shreveport. In tum the City of Byrd has spread out in all directions with a new gym, new cafeteria, additional classrooms, and has utilized the space below the front offices for increased space for the R.0.T.C. unit, to take care of the 2,600 citizens Shrevepon sends yearly to Byrd. Shreveport stands behind us in our many cultural projects and in our sports activities. Byrd, the city within a city, is proud to he a part of Shreveport, to receive its support, help, and encouragement, to help it dream dreams and see visions. Most of the citizens of the City of Byrd will spend their lives in the City of Shreveport, we are inter-dependent. Proudly and humbly, we, the CUSHER staff, dedicate the 1957 CUSHER to the cities of Shreveport and Byrd. .
