Graduation from Byrd requires four units of English. The four levels of learning include read- ing. oral speaking. writing. and listening. An appreciation of literature, of America and of the world. is gained through the English courses at Byrd. Literature enrich- es the lives of the students by acquainting them with the thoughts of great writers. Students are instructed in grammar to pre- pare them for theme writing, reports, and for use in future lives after graduation. The study of the short story is made very interesting in the Junior English classes at Byrd.
