,i Travel and growth characterized the 1953-54 Byrd High Band. The Band was the guest band at the reading held at L.S.U. in February. Concerts were exchanged with Vicksburg, Mississippi besides the regular February and May concerts. The Band, starting with 70 members, has grown to a 98 piece band. The Band enjoyed a most successful football season, topped off by a trip to New Orleans with the North Louisiana State Champs. The Band department strives to acquaint the music student with the finest in music literature performed to the best of his ability, to develop a sensitive appreciation and enjoyment of music as an art, and to instill in him a sense of self-pride and responsibility.
