Maintaining the fine tradition established by members of the instru mental department since its organization, groups this year have made appearances for radio broadcasts, assemblies, weekly military reviews community activities, and Holiday in Dixie. Also they have performed spectacular half time shows during the football season, including a guest a pearance at the Louisiana College Homecoming game, and pre pared or the annual spring concert. Chamber music groups have con tinued to contribute an important phase of our musical activities. Each student is given an opportunity to participate in one or more ensembles many of which have performed before various school and civic func tions. This year high fidelity recording equipment was added to the department through the cooperation of the Band Parents' Club and Mr Koffman. The Band welcomes all students who wish to begin or continue their musical training. Classes are offered for beginners on both band and orchestral instruments, for intermediate students in both band and string sections, in addition to the Military, Marching and Concert bands. The goal of our department is not to train the student to become a profes- sional musician, but to instill in him an appreciation of good music through the study and performance of the finest musical literature available.
