Performing both jointly and separately, the Freshman Glee Club and Upper Class Glee Club have furnished music for assembly programs and civic clubs. In December, the Glee Clubs participated ith niusic groups from other schools in a music festival of Christmas music at the Municipal Auditorium. Members were picktfd from both Glee Clubs to form the opcretta chorus. A CAPPELLA CHOIR The 1949-50 A Cappella Choir is one of the largest in the history of Byrd. Some of the varied activities in which the choir has participated were assembly programs, the Christmas program at the Municipal Auditorium, a two-hour Christmas program for the Byrd student body, the spring operetta, Shreds and Patches, and their own Spring Concert. Student song leaders and accom- panists were chosen from the Choir for each assembly of the year. The Choir has furnished upon request, many small ensembles and soloists for entertainment at civic luncheon clubs. T wenty-Six

Tbe aim of et ' ery arcber is to hit the bttllseye. Our Physical Education Department is designed to train students of Byrd High School in good sportsmanship, group participation, and teamwork. The enjoyment of the game is taught along with the fundamentals and techniques, thus providing an excellent means of using leisure hours wisely. The program not only develops physical fitness through engaging in games but also emphasizes health habits by the study of personal hygiene, social hygiene, and first aid. Sqttare dancing is becoming increasingly popular. Tennis is the activity ivhich seems to have more carry-over valne among Byrd girls. Page Twenty-Eight
