Since it has been the practice of the club to pay especial attention to Louisiana history, it was named for Charles Cayarre, the eminent Louisiana historian. This year set a new high in the activities of the club. In addition' to its regular programs the club reproduced The Pantherv, an historic play of old Louisiana. CHARLIE HAYGOOD, Captain Guard Charlie lettered for the third time this year. He is as good on t'he offense as 'he is on the defense. Charlie made t'he All-North Louisiana football team. A Review of the 1932 Football Season T-he football season started September 110 with ninety-five candidates answering the call. Most of the lettermen of the championship teams of 3O and 3l', had graduated. This left aspiring candidates an opportu- nity to fill several vacant positions. lt can truthfully be called a suc- cessful season. Although the team got off to a poor start they finished with a hang , Haynesville had the outstanding team in North Louisiana and had rolled up some tremendous scores against strong competitors They were doped to do likewise with the Yellow Jackets.. The game endied in a scoreless tie with Haynesville being outplayed three quarters of the game. In the final quarter they evened the count on first downs but were un-able to cross the Byrd goal line. The classic of the season was the first meeting of the two Shreveport High Schools on the gridiron. School spirit ran high and loyal students from both schools were pulling for their Alma Mater to come through with a victory. The Yellow Jackets hammered away on straight line plays the entire first quarter for small gains. They made their first score in tihe second quarter on an off tackle play. In the second half outside plays were used to great advantage and two more touchdowns were made. The final score was Byrd 20-Fair Park 0. This was the fir-st time the School Board had sanctioned Athletic competition between. the two schools. Not a single incident happened to mar the meeting of the two teams. The two schools will meet annually as a result of the fine sportsmanship shown in the txt game. The prospects for the 1933 team are very bright with such men as Larsen, Haygood, Smith, Farmer, O. Puryear, Anderson, Hammann. Stoll. Stone, Overdyke and many others who already have proved to be capable men under fire. Mr. Prendergast, who has been at the helm of the Jacket cinder teams for many previous years, was, due to a serious illness, unable to continue through the season. His place has been elliciently filled by T. R. Sage, a Byrd teacher who was an outstanding performer on the track dur- ing his college days. A week after taking up the coaching duties Sage took his charges to Haynesville, where, although being defeated, showed promising talent against the past year's North Louisiana Champions. Wardell Leisk, a senior of Well-known athletic ability proved to be the Jackets, outstanding performer, win- ning second place in the hop-step and jump, broad jump and high ju-mp.
