It was predestined that things would be different and exciting after the presidential election eneded in a tie, leaving us with two presidents instead of one. To keep the student body involved, a schedule of activities were planned including two dances, a volleyball game between teachers and Student Council, Spirit Week, Costume Day, Mr. and Ms. lr- resistable contest, Blue Santa canned food drive, stuffed animal sales, a turkey gobble contest, the annual Fulkes follies Variety Show, and daily pencil sales. Student Council members gloat over the food they collected for the food drive. The group consisted of eight cheerleaders and two mascots. They held pep rallies to build spirit for the teams, with help . from the pep squad. TGFVY Sullivan blows his heart out. Dare Lovett keeps the beat. Top band adds another trophy to their five year tradition. The A Band continued their record of outstanding achievements in 82-83. For the fifth consecutive year, under the able direction of George Jansen, the Honors Band brought home a Sweepstakes trophy from UIL competition. To achieve this, they had to receive top ratings in sight reading and concert. They presented three concerts during the year, and many individuals were chosen for district and region band, and competed in solo and ensemble con- tests. They also boosted spirit at pep rallies and football games. Mr. Jansen jazzes it up. They performed three plays, including Aesop's Fables, The Waiting Ftoom,DruciIla's Decision. They also did a Christmas program at Berkman Elementary School, and the puppet show The Little Fur Tree. Not only did they give outstanding performances on stage, but they also learned the most important thing in acting to be flexible, said Ms. Machalicek, a skill which helped them to go on to win the sweepstakes trophy in the UIL competition. Greg Horn sets forth a good example by working hard. General Construction and lndustrical Arts both had a very productive year. General Construction built a barn, toolshed, twenty-six trusses, and spent some valuable time repairing various items around the school. Mr. Remeny, the teacher of General Construction, said it had been a very rewarding year. l.A. Students learned to make clocks in wood and scrollwork in metal. They learned about isometric drawing and went to regional and state competition. Stephanie Ford, a part ofthe gang. CVAE-ODP opens its doors to visitors at their open house. CVAE-ODP means coordinated vocational academic education in office duplication practices. The students learned how to work in an office by developing good work habits, learning to work with other students, and working with office machine. They learned to use calculators,computers, typewriters, and offset machines. They also learned to complete job applications and to participate in job interviews. Ms. Saul, teacher of CVAE was very proud of her students this year. She said, This was one of the best classes l've taught. Chris Torres types up a paper. Outstanding A team players were Kierstin Kile and Sarah Womble. Outstan- ding B team players were Amy Milian Christina Fiydell and Terri Douglas. .The seventh grade girls' A team came very close to a winning Zseason. With 9 Kim Alford waiting expectantly. The A team is ready to play! Lori Purtle scares the opponent away. Will Sarah Womble make it? 33 The seventh grade girls' track team had a strong program which helped them set several meet records. They placed 3rd in the Round Rock Jr. Relays with Toni Williams break- ing a meet record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.64 told record-13.951, The 400 meter relay team, composed of Kim Alford, Marilyn McWithey, Sarah Womble, and Kierstin Kile broke another meet record with a time of 56.66 told record-57.09l. They received 1st place in the Doug Hall Relays and another 1st at the Taylor Track Meet. The records made at the Doug Hall Meet were Toni Williams, 100 meter dash-13.93, 200 meter dash-29.363 Kierstin Kile, triple jump-31f7'A 5 Kim Alford, Kierstin Kile, Sarah Wom- ble, Toni Williams, 400 meter relay-54.70. Overall, they placed 2nd in district behind a very strong Temple team. Working as a team, the eighth grade girls' track team lacked strength, but they had several good individual run- ners. Samantha Mercer set two records, one at the Round Rock Jr. Relays in 100 meter hurdles-17.48 told record- 17.551, and another at the Doug Hall Meet in the 100 meter hurdles-17.73. The high point girls on both the seventh and eighth teams were, 7th: Kierstin Kile, Sarah Womble, Toni Williams, Kim Alford, Terri Douglas, Angie Young. Sth: Samantha Mercer, Terri Jean, Gilianne Carter, and Susan Stockdal. The seventh grade boys' track team represented CDFMS very well as they were in competition for several meet cham- pionships. They won many ribbons and medals during the season. Their progress was amazing. The entire team is eagerly awaiting next year's season. Records set this season were as follows: Eric Detrick, 100 meter dash-12.455 Pat Brindle, 100 meter hurdles-18.093 Eric Detrick, 200 meter dash-26.035 Eric Detrick, 400 meter dash-59.575 An- dy Combs, 800 meter run 2219.855 Charles Kuhl, Andy Combs, Jessie Gadison, Eric Detrick, 400 meter relay-50.80. The eighth grade boys' track team surged ahead of their predecessors, placing 3rd in district over four other teams, leaving last year's last place 3 point position behind for ever. This was a track rebuilding year with the end results showing at vast improvement for the previous year's perfor- mance both as a team and individually. Greg Utley, district champion, won 4 out of his 5 outings in the 300 meter hurdles with a best time of 42.02. Mike Almazon, Ray Cumings, James McGregor, and Get Utley placed 2nd in district in the 400 relay with a best time of 47.84. Kevin Metcalf's best throw in the discus this season was 126'4'A inches. The 1600 meter relay members were Greg Utley, Mike Almazon, Scott Jones, and James McGregor. Their best time was 3.47.84 Outstanding in the 200 meter dash, James McGregor won 3 out of his 5 outings. He added points to the team score in sprint relay, long jump, and high jump. The 400 meter relay team won 1st place with a record set- ting 48.25 at the Round Rock Jr. Relays. Greg Utley won four 1st places in the 300 hurdles and set records all four times.
