Mrs. Whitehead. who is originally from Rosebud, South Dakota. started teaching at Byron in 1938. ln college she majored in music, violin and piano, and English with a minor in Language. Her teaching time consisted mainly of Re- medial Reading but her extra curricular ac- tivities were far more reaching. Mrs. White- head has contributed much to this school system by being instrumental in getting Spanish added to the curriculum and help- ed advance the curriculum in other areas also. She was active in Red Cross and help- ed with the Middle School program. Her concern for the school system and teaching will be greatly missed after her retirement of this year. Mr. Whitehead came to Byron with a major in math and a minor in Political Science and Spanish. He earned his Masters degree at University of Michigan. He arrived to teach at Byron High School the same day the 76 seniors began kindergarten. Thirteen years later with the same seniors. Mr. Whitehead is retiring. During those thirteen years. the classes taughtby Mr. Whitehead consisted of Geometry, College Algebra. Trigonometry. Algebra l 81 ll. Business Math. General Math and a correspondence Calculus course. How- ever school worlc wasn 't the only activity Mr. White- head participated in. He also served on the curricu- lum committee, High School P.A.C.. announced at football games and spent some time as assistant prin- cipal. His knowledge of and respect for Mathematics has spurred many a student to further attainment in this area. Such an influence shall not go to waste. ' 1 l . ' Congratulations Cn A Iob Well Done
