MRS. EMILY HIBBARD It is with deep affection and great regret that we watch another fine teacher retire. Mr. Leslie Hibbard has spent 38 years teach- ing in the public schools of this area. We are fortunate indeed that 18 of those years he de- voted to Byron. Mr. Hibbard is an alumnus of Byron, graduating in 1926. Besides the academic courses, Mr. Hibbard has enlarged the understanding of his students toward their fellowmen and exercised infinite patience as he helped students find answers to bewildering problems. It is an understatement to say that Mr. Hibbard achieved the perfection of per- formance he demanded of himself and ex- pected of others. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all. As this Echo goes to press, Mrs. Emily Hibbard is retiring from the teaching profession after 31 years of teaching. For 28 of these years, it has been the good fortune of the people of Byron to have Mrs. Hibbard at their school. She has been with our present high school during the years of its conception, its birth and its reaching maturity. She has seen Byron Area Schools through times of tribu- lation and adjustment that are inevitable when dreams take form as brick and mortar. Yet the original goals of Mrs. Hibbard, which included giving a better education to young people and help- ing them to understand the purposes of life, have remained steadfast. Her interest in Byron has help- ed guide Byron's destiny in these pacesetiing years when a high school education is a necessity. Her successful effort to keep Byron one of the best high schools yet free from the faddism that tends to destroy real achievement, is a source of pride and gratitude to the community and the student body. How does one say thank you for 31 years of a per- son's life, MR. LESLIE HIBBARD Y
