Flippilgg over the cover you find the table of contents with none other than KEITH STITES publisher. Boy, that letter to e Flint Journal really help- ed. On the same page, you'll notice an ad for Feke and MORSE Shopping Center. Looks like TOM bought out Yott. Did you know JOHN PRESTONISE won the contest for carry-out boy of the month! Turning the page we hit the glossip column. Editor: JANET WILLIAMSON. Janet, a busy body'??? Janet's latest scoop, TOM FULTZ and LI DA ROBINET finally took the big step, for the seventh time! But this doesn't stand in Tom's way of productions for the Screen, MARK COLBY starred in the most talked about picture, The Spider, with the help of make-up woman MARY CONANT. It shows a transformation from man to spider before your very eyes. His leading lady was JOYCE SMITH starring as Mistress Spider. She received an honorable mention. Leaving the gossip section, we go to this months special issue Bum-Bum-Bum Academg Awards Night, with roving reporter MARY GULICK. We go to buy our tickets and whom should we see? Why at's IACKI BODAG. Is her face red? As we are ushered to our seats by RICK GURDEN and DAVE SMITH, we are greeted by the ciga- rette girl ANNA LEDFORD qthat's a big step up from the car washj who has just made a big sa e to KYLE FORMAN and STEVE DOYEL professional baseball players. Let's gsm-get their autographs! I I Opening the program was Master of Ceremonies DA LL BADGERO. He introduces SANDY REVELS sin-ging The Impossible Dream in Danish, followed by ELSA and EVE singing in Spanish and German. It was a lit e hard to understand, but veg pleasant. On with the awards. ominations for best actor were DOUG TIDERINGTON for his role in Censoredg RON LAFAVE for his flea bitten role in Lassie Come Homer DAVE GRAVELIN in THE MUSIC MAN, and RANDY COREY in Hot Rods to Heck. The winner . . . Ron LaFave! After his speech of thanks, BOW- WOW- WOW! !, we move to best actress. The nominations were MARY KEITH for National Velvetg CATHY COTTLE and MOLLY GARDNER for their role in Here Come the Bridesg COLLEEN and MAUREEN MCGUIRE for their role in The Bobbsey Twins at the Seashoref' and BEV SCHMIDT in How to Be a Cheerleader Without Really Trying. The winner 15 .. . Mary Keith. She wasn't present, so the horse accepted the trophly with tears of joy. Flipping to the next page we find the big Hollywood bash at the Kitty Kat C u , or better known as Roy Ketchtnns. As we enter, we are greeted by Miss Kitty Kat KAREN SHAW. We see little kittens all over. Why there's PEGGY CAMPBELL, SANDY JACKSON, WENDY BROOKS and TERRY SUTTER. Who's that over in the corner yelling Here kitty, kitty, kitty? Why CARTER LAHRING you devil, you're supgosed to be shy. We hear a rumble at the back door frumblej. Why it's DEBBI COBB and BETTY K ITH in their ook alike dresses. After all the excitement ended, we all returned to the bar where we find BOB STROUB making his specialg G8rG delirght. QA family recipej. CI DY SINGL TON fsho's face is permanently redy was found milling around getting snapshots of everyone. She certainly enjolyed getting a picture of BILL SMITHINGELL standing in the corner in his football uniform. This ended another nigb t at the Kitgy Kat Club, after all it is 7:30 - A. M. While we are departing we witnessed a hippie revolt led y MY HOL . Turning to the next section we see our literary column. The top seven books of the month are The Magnet- 'ic Woman by DENISE NEWMAN, The Magnetic Man by MELVIN WILKINSON, this may be just gossip, but I hear they compare notes! Rosemary's Baby by ROSE PATTAN, How to Find a Man by SHERRIE WILLIS, Betty Crocker by KAREN HIBBARD, and an old time favorite Charlotte's Web by CHAR FORSYTH. and The Babysitter by KATHY SCOTT - she has eight now and is expecting twins. These books may soon be found in your school library along with a special edition of Mad Magazine of which the famous artist ROGER COOPER did a true to life sketch of PAM MARTELL and SUSAN LICHTY. The picture will be shown in next months copy. It's very revealing. Now we turn to the sports scene. There's no other than ROD VANWAGONER shooting his 65 ft. shot, with NINA ROOT running up for the rebound. Don't they look cute in their matchin uniforms?! The next page we see RANDY MILLER in his football uniform. Who's he tackling? Why it's SUSIE ROBINSON cheering him on. Hi.re's NATE DUGGER, a new basketball star in the sports scene. They say that boy is still growing. His goal is 9 eet. I don't believe it! There's DEBBIE SKINNER and JUDY JACOBSON, the first girls ever to make an all-male basketball team. I wonder if that old fight for Women's Lib in Mr. Hilliar's class had an thing to do with it? Turning to the next page we find a story about army life that was written by JERRY SKIEED. We see in the picture that he has now become a recruiting officer, and shown inrerviewin the least expected to go: like JOHN JOHNSTON, RUSS ROOT, and JIM FUIA. On the next page is a snapshot otg the latest Tractor Day in Hollywood. There's MIKE HOSKINS carrying Hollywoods FFA flag, DAVE SCRIBNER in the lead with PEGGY LYONS sitting on his lap: next in line is MATT BOWEN on top of a giant John Deere. Then bringing up the rear we have BOB TOMASEK on his recently- washed tractor pulling a manure spreader.. Turning to the back we come to the thank you's. We would like to thank PATSY LYONS for her deep voice and co-operation in phone subscriptions. Thanks to KAREN MARTIN and PAT BEEMAN for the beautiful fashions it took to make the magazine what it is today. SUE STEVENS would like to thank all the little people involved in her wedding. qThat really was quite a thingy. CINDY SCHLAGER gets thanks for the comic page of daffy definitions! S e really has reat talent for that! ! ! We especially want to thank MERGARET MARCH for her willingness to print this ma azine on such fine paper from her newspaper printing company. And here's an ad for LORI FITZPATRICK'SqJa11et school. She's so graceful and co-ordinated. Thanks to STEVE STIFF for the construction of the magazine and TERESA HUMPHREY for her fine job for hair-do of the month. Congratulations Tree! ! We've just given tglou a glimpse of what's been happening in the ten years since the CLASS OF '72 graduated. Pick up your copy of 's magazine, where on the front cover you'll see MR. EMILY HIBBARD It is with deep affection and great regret that we watch another fine teacher retire. Mr. Leslie Hibbard has spent 38 years teach- ing in the public schools of this area. We are fortunate indeed that 18 of those years he de- voted to Byron. Mr. Hibbard is an alumnus of Byron, graduating in 1926. Besides the academic courses, Mr. Hibbard has enlarged the understanding of his students toward their fellowmen and exercised infinite patience as he helped students find answers to bewildering problems. It is an understatement to say that Mr. Hibbard achieved the perfection of per- formance he demanded of himself and ex- pected of others. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all. As this Echo goes to press, Mrs. Emily Hibbard is retiring from the teaching profession after 31 years of teaching. For 28 of these years, it has been the good fortune of the people of Byron to have Mrs. Hibbard at their school. She has been with our present high school during the years of its conception, its birth and its reaching maturity. She has seen Byron Area Schools through times of tribu- lation and adjustment that are inevitable when dreams take form as brick and mortar. Yet the original goals of Mrs. Hibbard, which included giving a better education to young people and help- ing them to understand the purposes of life, have remained steadfast. Her interest in Byron has help- ed guide Byron's destiny in these pacesetiing years when a high school education is a necessity. Her successful effort to keep Byron one of the best high schools yet free from the faddism that tends to destroy real achievement, is a source of pride and gratitude to the community and the student body. How does one say thank you for 31 years of a per- son's life, MR. LESLIE HIBBARD Y 0 I j, ,A 1 ,--V' '-S ' ' P E, I,.X in --.. 'rw H W- , If, , .-Y we I4 S L -.
