Freshman Class The Class of 1956 began their year with fifty-six excited Freshman. Their class advisors were Miss Burk and Mr. Van Klornpenburg. The officers elected are as follows: President . . . Kenneth Terpstrag Vice-President . . . Larry Brown: Secretary . . . Evelyn Mastg Treasurer . . . Galen Brown: Sgt.-of-arms . . . Linda Manshaem. The Representative to student council was Marilyn Rillema. Evelyn Mast was chosen to be in the Queen's court for the Homecom- ing game, while Leon Flannery and Crystal Einig were the candidates for the King and Queen for the Harvest Festival. So far there have not been many events in our lives as Freshman, but we are looking forward to the remainder of the time that we will spend in high school here at Byron High. Sophomore Class On September 5, 1951, 51 birds flew into Byron High. At our first bird session we chose Margaret Steffes to rule as Queen and Larry Marshall as- sisting her and taking over in her absence. Donna Elzinga was elected to take care of the bird feed and Joanne Burmania recorded all the chirping. Mr. Klinesteker and Miss France kept the birds from flying away. Our project for our Freshman year was selling tulip bulbs. Donna Elzinga was our choice to represent our class in the Queen's Court. Jack Swainston and Margaret Steffes were the birds elected to represent our class in the Student Council and also the Round Table Sessions. We flew to Zeeland to have a bowling party and also flew to Ramona Park to have a pile of fun. On September Z, 1952, 49 birds flew into Byron High. We lost Russell Hibma, but gained Duane Hopp and Terry Nyenhuis. At our first bird session we elected Marvin Folkert as King Bird and Sara Troost to assist him. Mary Klinge was elected to record all the chirping and Phyllis Syswerda was chosen to take care of the bird feed. Miss Hill and Mr. Wells were chosen as our class advisors. Marv Folkert and Donna Elzinga represented our class in the Student Council. Our class project is selling cards. Phyllis Syswerda was our choice to represent us in the Queen's Court. Jack Swainston and Sara Troost were our birds for King ana Queen to re- present our class in the Harvest Festival. 16 i
