Cub Coach Bob Liggett stated that he was pleased with the team’s performance and that the only bad part of the season was the losing streak in the middle. The Cubs started out the season in fine fashion with a 15-6 win in the first game against Lena-Winslow. They went two more games and only lost one. Little did they know that they wouldn’t score a single point in the next four games. The F-S group finished its last two games with victories over Oregon and Rockford Lutheran to bring its season's record, to four wins and five defeats. FRESH-SOPH FOOTBALL Chris Eytalis and Andy Morrison were elected co-captains. John Whipple led in rushing with SOI yards in 135 attempts. Sean Adams led in passing with 33 out of 58 passes completed. The 1979 Tigers set their goals high, maybe a little too high. We ended up with a 5-4 record, which I consider a very successful season, stated varsity football coach Everett Stine. The Tigers voted Mike Stine Most Valuable Player. He passed for 767 yards, kicked for 1609 yards, and returned kicks and punts for 117 yards. Stine also had had 84 tackles on defense. On offense. Co-captain Chuck Bingham rushed for 583 yards and Tim Johnson went for 275 yards. On defense, Co-captain Tracy Nelson led the way with 117 tackles and 2 interceptions. Each year a Most Valuable Player is chosen. This year, Tom Hanlin was chosen. He had 45 tackles and 3 interceptions. BACK ROW: Chuck Bingham, Dean Wolfe. Rick Snodgrass. Tom Eytalis. Dave Osadjan.
