They won this with ease. Then it was the Sectionals. They defeated Winnebago in only two games, but it took three to beat Dakota. Then the Tigers proceeded to the Super-sectionals against East Dubuque. Here the Tigers ’ state championship hopes faded, but the Tigers realized that they set a new Byron High record in volleyball with their 19-3 win-loss record. Co-captain Mary Hayden led the way with a total of 135 points. Right behind her was co-captain Jackie Deming with 125 total points. Pat Boehm had the most aces (66) and the most spikes (III). The 1979 cast did a commendable job of recreating this classic comedy. The play revolves around two darling old ladies who kindly assist lonely old men out of this world by way of elderberry wine laced with arsenic, strychnine, and cyanide. Nephew Mortimer discovers their problem and tries to remedy the situation with interference from a long-lost criminal brother Johnathon, who with his friend Dr. Einstein, want to do harm to ortimer. Also complicating the plot is Mortimer’s fiance and a nephew who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt. All ends well (we think), when the aunts and Teddy go to the sanitarium. Mortimer plans his marriage, and Jonathon and his friend are arrested. At the end, however, the aunts offer the head of the sanitarium a glass of elderberry wine. The club has forty-four members, fifteen of them new this year. For money-making project this year we worked at the legion. We served meals and washed dishes for weddings and dinners. The club's annual field trip was to Old World Wisconsin, an out- door ethnic museum. It was a look at how the different ethnic groups had coped in the new world. Everyone enjoyed it. The group performed five halftime shows during football season and started holiday activi- ties at the Dixon Developmental Center, as well as taking part in Byron’s Christmas Concert and making the annual trip to Chicago. Late winter and early spring were spent preparing for the IHSA Music Contests. Then the end-of-school rush was on with Spring Con- cert and Memorial Day Parade to prepare for. After learning the ropes the first 9 weeks, time was spent in rehearsal for the Christmas activities which included going to the Devel- opmental Center in Dixon for a Performance with the band, our own Christmas Concert and of course tbe annual trip to Chicago. This spring the chorus was large enough to compete in the I.H.S.A. Oregon Music Con- test and received Division rating.
