This year's cross country team, made up entirely of underclassmen, had 3 firsts and 4 seconds out of 11 meets; placed 7th out of 14 teams at the Polo Invitational and 4th out of 10 at the Oregon Frosh Invitational. The Fresh-Soph team gave the Byron fans an excit- ing season this year with a fine performance from fresh- man back Doug Reber, who gained 556 yards, and split end Jim Tilbury, who caught 25 passes for 479 yeards. Randy Roberts led the defense with 99 tackles. The backfield consisted of three enthusiastic freshmen- -Doug Reber, Jeff Johnson, and Brain Hoglund; also sophomore running back Chuck Anderson and quarter- back Dave Zoet, who completed 50 of 126 passes for 880 yards.
