Pendergrass, M. Hayden, M. Haye, Mgr. Summer baseball is in its second season at BHS, and this season has the potential of being a very exciting one. The team is larger than a year ago at this time, which marks a steady improvement. The three seniors who are looked upon for leadership are Mike Landis, Doug Leary, and Ron Toops. Landis is in his fourth year of baseball at BHS, while Leary is in his third and Toops his second. Mr. Nauman has expressed high hopes for his team, but, due to presstime deadlines, we are unable to print any results for the 1974 baseball season at BHS. 14

Byron High School sported its largest track team in the school's history this season and it seems that size makes a winner. The team placed 3rd in the Conference, 1st in the ShanLan relays, 2nd in the Red Devils relays, 1st in the Lisle Invitational, and made respectable showings in the Forreston Relays. The team also did well in several other meets. A large number of juniors and seniors gave the team the depth necessary to win, and the junior squad gives a bright outlook for future teams. Most Valuable Player was Gene Mead. Ron Toops was voted team captain. An extra accom- plishment this year was Gene Mead's excellent performance in the 440 which won him a berth in the state track meet.
