SPEECH CLUB IN ACTION The speech team did an excellent job last year. But when last year's seniors graduated they took with them the majority of this team. In spite of this and with the addition of much hard work and some fast talking the team grew. Not only did the team grow, but they were good at their tasks. They did not win any meets, but they did get third at the district. Not bad for a team full of rookies. To top off all the good times of the year, the team traveled down state to watch the finals of the IHSA speech tournament. What they did was unbelievable! They all stayed out of trouble! ! ! Next year's team should be a good one, but they could use your help. No one will be turned down, all applicants will be accepted. No experience necessary. Hang in there dad! One question. Will the Byron East Orphanage rise again?

Homecoming is a time that should live in the lives of all who participated in the proceedings. The second annual girl's football game was rained out. The bonfire had to meet with certain specifi- cations, but it didn't. The seniors held the first hot dog and marsh- mallow roast after the fire had burned down. About that fire; it was composed of some of the strangest materials. Isn't that right, seniors? This year something different happened at the varsity football game; we beat Pec 32 to 6. May- be last year's team should take notes. The dance was the gala event that it should be. Cindy McGhee was crowned Queen and Russell Crull King. Ah, it was a time to remember.
