The 1971-1972 basketball season saw many contests decided in the final seconds of the games, creating excite- ment and thrills for all ages. The Durand Holiday Tournament was a highlight of the early season. The Tigers emerged victors, largely due to the fabulous free throw shooting of Steve Lucas. Randy Hogan and Russ Hoffman were honored by being chosen to the Tournament Team. The Tigers' first conference loss came against Stillman; But they went on to seven straight victories before los- ing a second conference game to Pecatonica. A loss of momentum cost the Tigers three more conference games but they finished the season with an 8-6 record which was good enough for third place in Conference standing. The over- all season record was 16-8. Individual honors were received by Russ Hoffman and Randy Hogan. Both Russ and Randy were elected co-cap- tains and both were voted to the second conference team by the conference coaches. Randy also was selected MVP for his fine season's work, and Russ also won the award for best percentage of free throws made.
