The story of the year for the Music Department included these many ac- tivities: performing at home football and basketball games, presenting the annual Christmas concert, participat- ing in the IHSA ensemble and solo con- test held at Dakota, hosting the Route 72 Music Festival, and presenting the annual Spring concert. The new Inkspot took on the style of a real newspaper in- cluding photographs, editorials, and reports on school organizations. Advertisements from local merchants were collected to cover the cost of publishing the newspaper in Durand. Several of the staff members attended the High School Journalism Seminar in February, which was held at the Hotel Faust. During the course of the day, Terry Haye, editor of the Inkspot, was presented with the Most Valuable Staffer Award for BHS. After an enjoyable lunch, everyone present enjoyed a tour of the Rockford News Tower. The Inkspot staff worked very hard to provide interesting reading matter for all. 14
