F.H.A. started off its year with a party for all girls interested in becoming members. In September, we attended the Fall Rally at DeKalb. We were proud to have Dianne Swenson, our first vice-president, hold the section office of secretary. In November, F.H.A. held the annual Sadie Hawkins dance. In February, we corresponded with a secret sis and later held a party to reveal who the secret sisters were. During February and March, the freshmen girls worked hard for their Junior Degree, and the sophomore girls worked on their Chapter Degree. March 31 to April 6 was F.H.A. Week. The Spring Rally was the highlight of April. In May, the new officers were elected. The final event of the year was a picnic at White Pines. 42 N.H.S. SEATED, L to R: C. Nighswonger, Sec.; P. The seniors ot this year will be missed greatly, but with the many experienced underclassmen, the Tigers should have another successful season next year. Homecoming 1967 was very exciting and a lot of fun for everyone. The big event started Thursday night with the pep rally on the bank corner followed by the snake dance leading to the school, where the queen, king, and their court were introduced. The huge bonfire, symbolizing the destruction of our football foe, could be seen for miles around. Friday was the game with Ashton in which the Tigers were triumphantly victorious with a score of 26 to 19. The theme of the dance on Saturday night was Moonlit Autumn. The coronation of Queen Nancy and King Bill was held at the beginning of the evening, and we danced the rest of the night away to the music of Norris Romeo. 66 Will he make it? 67 Change Me ! 68 JUNIOR DANCE The Thirteenth Precinct What's going on?? The Juniors this year decided to change the Junior Dance by having a discotheque-type band, The Thir- teenth Precinct. The decorations were also styled around a discotheque theme. The dance was held on March 9, 1968, from 8:00 till 11:00 P.M. A dance contest was held, which was won by Linda Mrowiec. Listen here you! ! 69 We'll show you how! ! I tried to tell him! The Cast Why so early? “NUTS IN MA The Senior Class Play, Nuts In May , was held, finally, after many problems and hard weeks of practice, on May 17 and 18. Nuts In May is the story of a famous Broadway actress whose son is home from school with his girl problems on her opening night. They succeed, however, in reducing the problems and all ends for the best. Special thanks goes to Mr. Anderson who directed the play, and through the capable acting of the entire cast, the play was a big success. Leading parts were played by Cindy Nighswonger, Paul Hoffman, Bill Carlson and Sharon Hickman. 70 Alden, Look! Welcome, Seniors! ! A good time by all. How funny! JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET The Junior-Senior Banquet was held on Tuesday, May 7, 1968, at the Oregon Country Club. A swiss steak dinner was served after the invocation which was given by Chuck Grigalauski. Charles Helsten, president of the junior class, gave the welcoming address, and Cindy Nighswonger thanked the juniors on behalf of the seniors. Bill Farris gave an after-dinner speech and then Debbie Sieb- ken and Don Hahn gave the senior class prophecy. The senior class will was given by Pat Wells and Charlene Forrester. 71 Queen Nancy King Terry 1968 Royalty and Court 72 Old and New Kings and Queens Waiting for announcement of 1968 King and Queen! The Gym looked like anything but a sports arena on Saturday evening, May 11. With streamer backdrops of green, gold, and blue crepe paper, the area was turned into a lovely Hawaiian setting, replete with towering palms and other Island scenery, for the staging of the annual May Fete and dance. Master of ceremonies, John Farris, introduced all couples who took part in the Grand March. Big moment of the evening was the announcement of the king, queen, and their court. Terry Seabold was crowned king by last year's king, Bill Hahn, and Nancy Aliprandini was crowned queen by last year's queen, Linda Svartoien. Linda Mrowiec and Galen Crull were first attendants; Cindy Nighswonger and Dave Calvert, second attendants; Sharon Hickman and Bill Carlson, third atten- dants; and Pam Wells and Randy Auker, fourth attendants. The program honoring the Royalty consisted of a solo by Vicki Hess, the tra- ditional Maypole dance by the junior girls, and a solo by Steve Wahl. Both so- loists were accompanied by Kris Pierson. Junior girls taking part in the Maypole dance were: Dianne Swenson, Virginia Glawe, Claire Calvert, Kris Paul, Diane Greffe, Kay Norup, Kris Pierson, Vicki Hess, Brenda Dunham, Lois Oleson, Debbie Hendee, Janice Champion, Kathleen Parks, Julie Wilmarth, Debbie Siebken, and Vicki Hess. Mrs. James Calvert played for the Maypole dance and the Grand March. After the Grand March, music for dancing was by the Norris Romeo band. 73 COMMENCEMENT May 28, 1968, the members of the Senior Class of 1968 received their diplomas. Commencement speakers were Mike Lahr, valedictorian, and Paul Hoffman, saluta- toriam Cindy Nighswonger, class president, gave the welcoming speech. The graduating class of thirty-nine members will long be remembered for their active participation in the activities of Byron High School. During the years at Byron High, the class was active on the athletic field, in school organizations, and in the classroom preparing for the time when they must leave and take their place in adult society.
