In the Route 72 Speech Meet Byron speakers placed as follows: Verse Speaking..........................................Sally Walker, first Comedy Reading.......................................Dorothea Drake, first Oration..............................................Gene McNames, first Original Oration....................................... Rick Greene, first Valdene Oltmanns, second Orignial Monologue...................................Shirley Shelton, first Rick Greene, second Extemp...............................................Leary Kennedy, first Valdene Oltmanns, second Radio Speaking.......................................Marvin Dennis, third One Act Play....................................................Byron, first Byron scored forty points; Winnebago, fourteen; Stillman Valley, eight; Monroe Center and Ashton, five; Leaf River failed to score. The one act play Heritage of Wimpole Street had the following cast members: Faith Featherston, Sally Walker, Barbara Wallin, Gene McNames, and Scott Walker. Dakota did not score. Results of the Sectional were not available at the time that the By-Hi was printed. However, win or lose, the speakers who have represented our school this year have done excellent work and can well be proud. 30
